BUSINESS IN THE CLASSROOM

On an ongoing basis, the BEA will maintain a list of speakers from the business community who are eager to visit classrooms and share with students the wisdom they have gained in their own business experiences. These visits might last anywhere between 50 minutes to an entire school day, depending upon speakers’ availability and educators’ assessment of the fit with curriculum.

e-MENTOR PROGRAM

The BEA will maintain a list of business people who will make themselves available to interact with students via email and Internet on an as-needed basis, helping students navigate issues that arise in the students' business classes, in their internships, or in their part-time jobs. Mentors may advise on subjects such as work/life balance, workplace relations, career and educational paths, etc. .

INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT

The BEA will maintain a list of businesses able to provide internships for students, with descriptions of the roles the students will play in the internships, the parameters of the internships (days per week, hours per day, duration, etc.) and whether interns are compensated. Businesses might vary in the structures of internships that they offer, but the BEA will establish a set of standard expectations.

JOB SHADOWING

The BEA will organize job-shadow events, either regularly or on an as-needed basis, in groups of students or individually. Participating businesses will make educators aware of their capacity to accommodate job-shadowing students, both in terms of numbers of students and the amount of time that the student(s) can expect to spend in the job-shadowing activity. The BEA will organize an annual Job-Shadow Day on or near Feb. 2.
