Arvada-area Middle School Students Compete in 2025 National Civics Bee

May 15, 2025, ARVADA, Colorado – Middle school students from Arvada-area schools competed in the 2025 National Civics Bee regional competition on May 1 at Revive Church. The event was hosted by the Greater Arvada Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Colorado Chamber of Commerce and the Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Students competed with their peers in a live quiz event and answered questions from judges to test their civics knowledge. The top three finalists from the Arvada competition will have the chance to participate in the state-level competition hosted by the Colorado Chamber of Commerce in Denver on May 30, 2025. The winner of the National Civics Bee Colorado State Finals will then be invited to Washington, DC to compete in the National Civics Bee national championship.

Winners of the Arvada-area civics bee include:

  • First place: Cameron P., Horizons K-8
  • Second place: Brendan F., Faith Christian Academy
  • Third place: Shannon M., Century Middle School 

The first-place winner of the local competition received a $500 cash prize and all three finalists are invited to participate in the statewide competition. The top three winners of the state competition will receive cash prizes of $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. The state champion will have the opportunity to compete in the national competition, which includes $100,000 for the first place winner, $25,000 for second place, and $15,000 for third place.

This year’s event emcee was Andrew Kenney, editor at Denverite (Colorado Public Radio). Sponsors for the event included Common Spirit Health, Comcast, artSpark, Arvada Flooring and Interiors, and The Arvada Kiwanis

The judges for this year’s event were Commissioner Rachel Zenzinger (Jefferson County), Amanda Gonzales (Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder), and Sharon Davis (Arvada City Council).


During the quiz portion, students answered 20 multiple-choice civics questions. Five students then advanced to the Essay Q&A portion, in which they summarized their submitted civics essays and answered questions from the three judges.
