Arvada (October 31, 2025) – The Arvada Resiliency Taskforce announced an urgent community call to action today to ensure that no family in the area goes hungry with the goal of collecting up to 2,000 $25 grocery gift cards by November 15, 2025.
As the federal government shutdown continues, critical funding for programs like SNAP will pause. Nearly 600,000 Coloradans, and roughly 10 percent of Arvada families, will face an unprecedented crisis, with many losing access to essential food benefits beginning in November. The loss of these benefits will also impact local grocers and small businesses that provide food for Arvada families each month. SNAP spending accounts for approximately eight percent of all grocery retail spending. Even a short-term sales loss could force grocers to cut staff hours and reduce inventory (especially fresh/healthy items), as well as generate less tax revenue that in turn provide services for the community.
- Thousands of local residents rely on federal benefits that have been halted.
- Food insecurity is rising fastest among families with children. About 50% of people receiving SNAP benefits are children, 15% have disabilities, and 10% are older Coloradans.
- Typical SNAP benefits are used within the first two weeks of the disbursement of benefits and generally families do not see carry over beyond that.
- Immediately in November, residents will need food pantries and other public assistance. Local food pantries are already stretched thin.
- Every $25 in donations helps provide groceries for a meal for a family of four.
“This is our chance to rally as a community and ensure that no Arvada families face hunger alone,” Greater Arvada Chamber of Commerce CEO and Arvada Resiliency Taskforce lead Kami Welch said. “We are reaching out directly to the Arvada community for help and appreciate every contribution, no matter how large or small, as each makes an immediate, local impact.”
Join the effort by donating gift cards or making a direct cash donation. The campaign has a goal to reach $50,000 (2,000 donations of $25) by November 15.
How to Help
Donate Physical and Electronic Gift Cards:
Purchase gift cards to local grocers and deliver to one of Arvada’s convenient drop-off locations. Please be sure to write the denomination of the gift card on the card for clarity.
