Arvada Rotary Club and Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club to Host World Polio Day Event

October 17, 2022

October 10, 2022 – ARVADA, CO.  Monday, October 24 is World Polio Day.  No cases of polio caused by wild poliovirus have originated in the U.S since 1979.  Since 1988 there has been a 99.9% reduction in cases of polio worldwide.  There are now only two countries that remain endemic. However, in June 2022 a case of poliovirus was confirmed in Rockland County, NY.

To recognize World Polio Day, Arvada Rotary Club and Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club are hosting a breakfast on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30 am at Indian Tree Golf Club, 7555 Wadsworth Boulevard.  Arvada residents are invited to join the city’s Rotary Clubs to learn about Rotary’s three-decade effort to fully eradicate the poliovirus.  The Chair of Rotary District 5450 PolioPlus Committee, Dr. Marny Eulberg, will present an update on the current status of polio eradication, discuss the different poliovirus types and share the resources available to polio survivors.

The Foundations of Arvada Rotary Club and Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club have each set aside $1,000 to match donations from the Arvada community during the month of October.  Funds will be forwarded to Rotary Foundation where they will be matched two for one by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Donations can be made through Arvada Sunrise Rotary or mailed to ASR Foundation, PO Box 740144, Arvada, CO 80006.

RSVPs for the event are being accepted at https://arvadasunriserotary.org/event/international-world-polio-day/.

The Arvada Rotary Club has been serving the Arvada community for over sixty years.  Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club has been serving the community since 1991.
