Work-Based Learning at Your Business
Work-Based Learning (WBL) is a variety of activities students or job seekers engage in, at least in part, in the workplace, or with information from the business community. Businesses choose what type of WBL activity to offer based on their needs and capacity, and can include internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, career fairs, on-the-job training, and more.
For businesses, WBL helps:
- meet short and long-term talent needs
- save time, money, and resources in recruiting future employees
- increase brand awareness: community and job seekers learn about your business
- retain local talent that is geographically close to the business
The Chamber Offers a Free Work-Based Learning Online Training!
- A Free 1-hour online training for businesses
- Provides key information in one place for businesses to start or formalize their work-based learning program. Learn the benefits of providing WBL programming and which type of programming is best for your business.
- Receive a guide for launching or formalizing a program
Why Take the Work-Based Learning Online Training?
The training offers templates, links to resources and information in one place, saving businesses time and money.
With the training, businesses receive key information so they can make informed decisions about providing a WBL program. Businesses can offer the training to multiple staff, creating an opportunity for cross-training.
With the business’ permission, the Chamber can also highlight which businesses took the training with key providers, like school districts and community colleges, strengthening partnerships across the education to workforce pipeline
Who is the Training for?
This online training is for employers of all sizes and industries!
People who serve the following functions will benefit from the training. (Note: It might make sense for one or multiple people within your business to take the training.)
- People who determine whether to offer a WBL program, and/or the return on investment (ROI) the WBL program will yield.
- Staff developing the WBL program
- Staff managing WBL participants
- Staff in charge of talent acquisition and human resources
